Third UNU-UNESCO International Course on Biodiversity in Mangrove Ecosystems




The third UNU-UNESCO International Course on "Biodiversity in Mangrove Ecosystems" was held at Centre of Advanced Studies in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, India on 10-24 March, 2003. This year, fourteen young professionals participated the course which included lectures, field trips, group discussions and laboratory work in addition to the presentations by the participants.

Unep Workshop to Develop a Global POPs Monitoring Programme to Support the Effectiveness Evaluation of the Stockholm Convention
From 24-27 March, 2003, a workshop was held in Geneva, to discuss various aspects of ensuring the effectiveness of the convention, including assessment, analytical techniques and global capacity development.

Capacity Development Training for Monitoring of POPs in the East Asian Hydrosphere
A training workshop will be organized by the United Nations University (UNU), and undertaken in partnership with Shimadzu Corporation, Japan to take place at UNU Center in Tokyo from 1-2 September, 2003, and from 3-5 September in Hadano, Japan. The funding for the workshop will be provided by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), and by UNU. The workshop will include a poster session, which will be open to researchers and students of all relevant disciplines.

Seminar on EDCs in the Philippine Environment
The Natural Sciences Research Institute, Philippines, is sponsoring a public lecture on EDCs to be held on the 25th June, 2003. The aims of this event are 1) increasing public awareness on EDCs and 2) disseminating the results of the first 3 years of monitoring EDCs in the Philippines within the UNU project on Environmental Monitoring and Governance.

First International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment - Biodiversity and Environment
This Symposium is organized by the University of Tokyo, co-organized by AIT, AGS, SACWET, GMSARN and JSWE and sponsored by MEXT, Japan. It will be held at AIT, Bangkok, Thailand from October 23-25, 2003. The deadline for submission of papers is July 31st, 2003

2nd Asian Pacific International Conference on Pollutants Analysis and Control
The Institute of Environment and Resources (IER-CEFINEA) Vietnam National University -
Ho Chi Minh City, The International Association of Environmental Analytical Chemistry (IAEAC), The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL) and The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) announce the call for abstracts for a conference to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, 1-3 December, 2003.
