The Fifth UNU-ORI Joint International Workshop on Marine Environment
This event is to be held in Otsuchi, Japan, during 3 - 9 November 2004. It will be organized jointly by UNU, Ocean Research Institute of the University of Tokyo and the Iwate Prefectural Government. This is the fifth in a series of workshops that was initiated in 1999 involving young scholars and researchers from Asia and the Asia-Pacific island nations.

Open Seminar with Dr. Heidelore Fielder of UNEP Chemicals
This seminar was held on 8 October at UNU in Tokyo. Dr. Heidelore Fielder, Scientific Affaires Officer at UNEP Chemicals, introduced previous and current activities at Capacity Building Program of UNEP Chemicals. This seminar was organized by our new academic officer in UNU/ESD, Dr. Fukuya Iino (please see below for more on him).

Dr. Fukuya Iino joins the UNU Project
Dr. Fukuya Iino joins as Academic Programme Officer from September 2004. He will be based at the UNU Centre in Tokyo. He received his Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tokyo...<more details>

"Mangrove Management and Conservation -Present and Future"
(New Publication from UNU Press)

UNU Press has published a new title on mangrove management. This book contains the highlights of a workshop organized by UNU, the International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems (Japan), and UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere programme (MAB), in March 2000.
