Capacity Development Training for Monitoring of POPs in the East Asian Hydrosphere



On 1-2 September, 2003, UNU held a two-day workshop focusing on environmental quality standards for POPs pollution in the East Asian environment. This was followed by a training session for analytical technologies (3-5 September) in Hadano, Japan. The funding for the workshop was provided by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), and by UNU. The workshop report will be available on the UNU website shortly.

Fourth UNU-ORI Joint International Workshop on Marine Environment - Ecosystem Conservation in Coastal Areas
UNU has issued the first announcement and invitation for applications for an International Workshops on the Marine Environment, to be held jointly by UNU, Ocean Research Institute of the University of Tokyo and the Iwate Prefectural Government. This workshop is the fourth event in a series of workshops that was initiated in 1999. At this time, the UNU is soliciting applications from young scholars and researchers representing the countries in Asia and the Asia-Pacific island nations.

First International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment - Biodiversity and Environment
This Symposium is organized by the University of Tokyo, co-organized by AIT, AGS, SACWET, GMSARN and JSWE and sponsored by MEXT, Japan. It will be held at AIT, Bangkok, Thailand from October 23-25, 2003.
