UNU e-Newsletter Issue 16. April 2006 The international community has long
recognized the need for a global strategy for the production, transport,
storage, use and disposal of chemicals.
On Feb 6, 2006, after years of work, participants at the International
Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates,
adopted the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)
initiative. The agreement was
then approved by the 9th special session of the UNEP Governing Council/Global
Ministerial Environment Form (GCSS-9/GMEF). The main text of the SAICM (still

Introduction of new member institutes, India (next issue) and Pakistan (this
issue) Shimadzu GC/MS has arrived at each new memberfs laboratory
in India and Pakistan, and will be installed soon. The new member institute
in Pakistan is introduced in this issue. The Indian member institute will be
introduced in the next issue.
PAKISTAN COUNCIL OF RESEARCH IN WATER
RESOURCES The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources was established in 1964 under the name of Irrigation, Drainage and Flood Control Research Council (IDFCRC) within the Ministry of Natural Resources. It was brought under the control of Ministry of Science and Technology in 1970. It was renamed as Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) in 1985.
