(ICEMAN 2006) A former
project participant, Mr. Tan Kim Hooi (Maritime Institute of
Malaysia), kindly shared this information with us. This conference will be held on 21-24 August 2006 Legend Hotel, Kuala

more details on this conference please visit the website of Maritime Institute of Malaysia. UNU Event reports Risk analysis tool workshop was held
at the UN House (Tokyo) on 30 May, and UNU-IC participants had hands-on experience
on how the risk analysis was carried out in the business and environment risk
assessment processes. Ms. Mikiko Sawada, Hitachi Japan East Solutions. Ltd.,
kindly provided the training course. During the course, each participant was
provided with a computer with Microsoft Excel and a trial version of a risk
analysis tool, called @Risk. @Risk, by Palisade, is a Monte Carlo Simulation
tool which helps its users to calculate probabilities of Excel model outputs,
instead of single point estimations such as average, conservative and/or
worst case values. The environmental application used in the course was a
case study on "bioaccumulation of helptachlor in beef" introduced
in a Princeton University Press publication, "Should we risk it?"
written by Daniel Kammen and David Hassenzahl. After the workshop, a
participant remarked that he finally started seeing an overall picture of
what risk analysis is about.
