The focus of the discussion will be on
understanding of the ecosystem in coastal areas with a particular emphasis on coastal and
marine ecosystems, and advanced technology, such as Bio-logging and remote-sensing.
The workshop will include lectures from leading
experts in this region on the subject matter. All
workshop participants will be expected to make brief presentations about their own
research programmes, bringing a regional perspective to the meeting. In-depth discussions will be held to exchange ideas
and to develop further joint activities. A
field trip will be organized to provide a closer look at Japanese field research

scholars and researchers representing the countries in
For a limited number of selected participants
representing and based in developing countries, the UNU will be able to provide travel
grants on a competitive basis. These grants
will cover travel and related expenses. Application
